John Leroy Panter
December 5, 1926 - September 16, 2017

John L Panter, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the age of 90.

John was born on December 5, 1926 in Gulfport, MS to John S. and Annie Panter. He served in the United States Navy during WWII . He worked as a pipefitter for many years before retiring and was a member of the Pipefitter Union Local #568. John was a hardworking father supporting his family of eight children. He coached Girls Softball for many years and was an avid sports fan particularly of the New Orleans Saints. He was a faithful church member of Unity Primitive Baptist Church serving as a deacon for several years. He lived his life devoted to the Lord and his family. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the mother of his children Bobbie J. Panter , a daughter, Karla M. Fuller; brothers, James Panter, Paul Panter, infant Jack Panter; grandchildren, Ryan Prosser and Michael Gilly.

He is survived by daughters; Bobbie Baker, (Les) of Pascagoula, MS, Patricia G. Charlton ( Guy) of Pascagoula, MS, Joann Jackson of Biloxi, MS; sons, Danny M. Panter ( Libby) of Kenya, David K. Panter of Pascagoula, MS, John K. Panter (Eileen) of Pascagoula ,MS, and Steven M. Panter ( Nancy) of Ocean Springs, MS. ; siblings, William F. Panter (Dot) of Gulfport, MS, June Geppert of Austin, TX and Jackie Knott of Plano, TX; 22 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 1 great –great grandchild and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 18, 2017 at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula from 10am-12 noon. The funeral service will begin at noon in the chapel with Elder Sammy Odom officiating. Interment will conclude with military honors at Jackson County Memorial Park.
