OBITUARIES

James Donald Clinton  I am a Veteran.
November 14, 1937 - May 5, 2017

James Donald Clinton passed from this earthly life to his Heavenly Father's House on May 5, 2017. Donald was born on November 14, 1937, in Foxworth, Mississippi and was one of seven siblings in the family of Rankin A. and Lucy R. Clinton. After graduating from Oak Grove High School in 1956, he earned an Associate's from Peal River Junior College and went on to achieve both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi. Born into a family of educators, he naturally followed by becoming a math teacher and coach at Bassfield, McLain, Moss Point and Pascagoula High Schools in Mississippi. He was a life-long athlete and sports fanatic, excelling in basketball and tennis. He also enjoyed playing golf in his later years. Donald won scholarships to Pearl River Junior College making the two free-throws that won the state basketball and was known for making the two free-throws that won the state basketball championship for PRJC in 1958. After retiring from Pascagoula High School, he continued in his love of sports competing in triathlons and senior olympics, winning many medals and awards. He volunteered at Singing River Hospital for many years, finding this to be one of the most rewarding experiences of his life. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Pascagoula and the Fellowship Sunday School class, and as a humanitarian, he gave freely of his time and money to anyone in need. He loved his family, church, friends, county, and sports.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother, R.A. Clinton, Jr. He is survived by five siblings, Sam Clinton (Mamie), Joyce Rogers (Robert), Carolyn Adams (Roy), Jean Guess (Dick), and Jane Clinton (Tom); and by twelve nieces and nephews who remember him best for the gifts they received at Christmas of sports balls and equipment to encourage them to participate in sports and of course the discussions on the pythagorean theorem. He will be greatly missed for his humor, generous spirit, and compassion for those less fortunate. Rest in peace, brother.
