June 14, 1915 - April 26, 2017

Marie L. O'Dwyer, age 101, died peacefully in her home in Gautier on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Marie was born in Lynn, MA in 1915 and moved to Southern California when she was eight. She married Jack O'Dwyer in 1942 and moved to Boulder City, NV where Jack was an engineer at the nearby Hoover Dam.

Marie raised three children, was active in religious education, was a good softball player and began her 60-year bowling career in Boulder City. She returned to California in 1963 following the death of Jack. She worked as an Education Aide, became an enthusiastic Los Angeles Dodgers baseball fan and cared for her father until his death at age 93 in 1975.

In 1994, Marie moved to Gautier, MS to be close to her older son, John, his wife Dorothy and their three daughters (Sheila, Colleen and Maureen). She has been an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church since 1994. Marie participated in the 2004 Gulf Coast Senior Games in both bowling and horseshoes. At age 88, Marie bowled a high game of 224. She kept her mind sharp doing crossword puzzles and sending greeting cards. In recent years she has spent time visiting family and friends in Seattle and Arizona.

Marie is survived by her three children (John, Bill and Kathi), seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass of Christian burial for Marie will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Gautier on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 11:00am with Lunch to follow in the church parish hall.
